Writers go through this all the time. It is called writer’s block. There is no worse feeling for a writer than when they cannot think of what to write or they cannot organize their thoughts. You sit and stare at your computer for hours.
The best times for a writer are when the ideas are flowing out so quickly you hardly have time to get them down. Your fingers will not type fast enough to keep up with all the ideas. No matter where you are or what you are doing, when the ideas start flowing, you must get them down or they will be lost forever. I have had this happen in the middle of the night, in church, while driving down the road, while in the shower….. Inspiration comes at some unusual times. At those times you must stop and jot down your ideas or you won’t remember them or be able to organize them later.
People who are not writers do not understand this. They think you can come up with your ideas when ever you want. They suppose you can wait until you are alone and then the ideas will start flowing. They say things like: “Why don’t you check into a motel for the night and write all night”” or “Why don’t you wait until Friday afternoon when you don’t have anything pressing?” Listen closely…….it doesn’t work that way.
Have you ever had your writing sabotaged? There is nothing worse. You are busily trying to get your ideas typed up. Story lines are flowing smoothly with no interruptions. They are just falling into place and organized in the perfect order of events. Then along comes someone who wants to talk to you. You hold up a hand to ask them to wait until you have your ideas down, but they just ignore you and continue talking. When they finally realize they are interrupting, then they start whispering…..as if that would help.
If you ever see a writer typing as fast as they can or writing notes on paper as fast as they can, then walk away quietly. They have the juices flowing and cannot stop putting them down now and later get back into them. It just doesn’t work that way.
LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!!!!
